The land around Amesbury has evidence of settlement from pre-historic times and of course it is situated very close to Stonehenge.
To the west of the town are two lines of beech trees which were planted 200 years ago. These were to represent
the two lines of ships (Nelson commanding the English ships against France) in the Battle of the Nile on August 1st.
1798.
Due to the close proximity of the A303 Amesbury has attracted new housing developments in recent years and
the town has seen a growth in population.
