Salisbury the only city in Wiltshire although Swindon has unsuccessfully tried to obtain
city status. Salisbury has a cathedral which was completed in 1258 making the year 2008 its 750th anniversary. A testament
to the quality of the workmanship of the builders and architects. It has te tallest church spire in the United Kingdom at
123m (404 feet). It also contains the world's oldest working clock built in 1386.
The City has a large market and huge range of shops. The area around the cathedral contains many fine historic
buildings and museums. The City is very different to many cities in the UK. It has almost a rural charm with its riverside
